Your Name, Age, Gender and Location:
Jack, 23, male. Currently living in Wales but I'm from London originally, I moved down here a couple of years ago.
Tell us a little bit about yourself (non-WoW related Interests, Hobbies etc)
My main hobbie nowadays is Wow. I've been playing on and off since late Vanilla when my step dad at the time got me into Wow. I've tried a lot of games growing up but I think I've finally come to the realisation that nothing is as enjoyable for me as Wow. When I was a teenager I played a lot of Rugby and I've been a Chef for the past 7 years recently giving it up to go to University which started in September.
Character Information:
Bekterx- Holy Paladin. (Bekter was unfortunately taken when I moved to Draenor)

Battletag: Bekter#21761
Describe your choice of talents and why you've chosen them:
15: Crusader's Might is a requirement for playing the glimmer spec, reducing the CD of Holy shock is hugely important for getting out more Holy Shocks as well as also reducing the CD of Light of Dawn.
30: Rule of Law is important as the glimmer build benefit's from mastery which increases our healing. Also, the range increase is very nice!
45: For raiding it's pick whatever is suitable, for 2v2's I pick repentance for the CC and for M+ i pick blinding light for the AOE interupt.
60: Devotion Aura is the pick here, it has a very nice passive DR as well as probably the strongest cooldown in the game right now with Aura mastery and it not having a stacking requirement like barrier. Aura of sacrifice can come in handy if you are running 2 Holy Paladins on Za'qul. This is because there is a bug which sometimes causes the Aura Mastery not to hit everyone. If you pick the Aura of Sacrifice talent you should also pick the Unbreakable spirit talent on the 30 row because it reduces the CD of bubble which needs to be used before you use Aura Mastery. I've also read recently that people are suspecting Devo is bugged with 2x Holy Paladins in raids full stop at the moment and not just on Za'qul. Aura of Mercy is for padding only!
75: Holy Avenger is the only option here for the Glimmer build. The haste gives access to even more Holy Shocks during the ramp window as well as making them heal for more.
90: Sanctified Wrath is also another big pick for the Glimmer build. Avenging Wrath lasting for 25% longer and reducing Holy Shock's CD by 50% enables you to again put out more Glimmer's during your Wings window.
100: Divine purpose is the default choice again, more holy shocks = more healing!:)
How do you prioritize your stats and why?
The current stat priority is Haste>Mastery>Crit=Vers>Intellect.
Haste and mastery are the main priority stats but glimmer can be quite flexible. I like to have around or as close to the 30% haste mark as possible unbuffed as it makes the playstyle feel more fluid. Intellect is the worst stat as it does not increase the healing of Glimmer of light. I have a gear set for raiding which focusses more on haste and mastery and a gear set for M+ that focusses more on Crit, Haste and Vers. Sockets and leech on an Item roughly equate to 10 item levels.
Where do you acquire knowledge about your Class?
I tend to use the Holy Paladin discord quite often as well as guides that are available on Wowhead, Icy Veins and Questionably Epic. Voulk at Questionably epic has been implementing a "healer sim" version which for some classes you can compare Azerite and items and see what would be an upgrade or not.
Paste a your UI via IN COMBAT
(Ensure that all Key Bindings are visible)
https://prnt.sc/qc4g64 - I didn't have a print screen in a raid enviroment so I took one from my stream. Obviously, the chat blocker and list at the top wouldn't be there normally.
https://prnt.sc/qc4hnr - Just a picture outside of combat with my action bars with hidden keybindings toggled on.
I've not been happy with my Ui for a while so I'm making subtle changes to it when I get a new idea. Ideally I want to get rid of the action bars in the middle and only have weak auras when an ability is being used or is on cooldown. Also, I've been setting up a Vuhdo profile as I eventually want to swap over to it. A big bonus for me with Vuhdo is you are able to toggle healer mana only on raid frames. On Elvui you either see everyones power or nobodys.
What state is the state of your Heart of Azeroth?
70. I got 65 early on then I slowed down, when I started getting my paragon boxes ready for next patch I got to 70 quite easily.

I realise my logs aren't the best, I am trying to improve them. I've started streaming recently with the aim being to re watch my raids and see where I can improve. I've been looking at my rotation, if I could have saved someone, correct global usage, avoiding mechanics and general positioning. Also, my cd's are pre assigned in the guild so some bosses I am using my wings for dps such as Orgozoa and Queen's Court and my guild is still over healing the early bosses as they are trying to gear up people's alts.
Raiding History:
Describe your previous/current raiding experience: I would say I raided quite casually in TBC and WOTLK. Pugging certain raids or doing it with a low level guild. At the end of Cata I decided I wanted to give raiding more of a go, I cleared Dragon Soul on heroic and cleared MSV but then stopped playing. This was with a guild called Angels of Ares on Emerald Dream. I raided a little during Throne of Thunder but then stopped playing as I started working as a Chef and I couldn't do both. I played casual PvP from Mop to WoD and then stopped playing for the whole of legion only coming back for the BFA pre patch when I found a late night guild to raid with in BFA.
Uldir- Curve and 2/8 Mythic.
BOD- Curve and 2/8 Mythic.
Crucible- Missed due to my guild taking a break.
Eternal Palace- Curve and 6/8 Mythic. For about a month now we've been doing alternate weeks of reclearing and extending to progress Za'qul. I Joined my current guild in September and my first night raididng with them was the night we downed Mythic Ashvane and then I've progressed with them the rest of the tier so far.
Tell us about your previous guilds and your reasons for leaving them:
Since I've been back in BFA I've raided with 2 guilds. Zïon were a late night guild raiding 02:00-04:00 server time as a chef this suited me and we were getting curve and attempting some Mythic. As you can imagine, raiding at that time it is hard to find good players but also build up a steady roster. With Classic being released a lot of members started playing that, we went from struggling to get 20 to raid mythic to struggling to have enough players to get Curve. My last raid we got Curve and the guild has sort of dissapeared since.
With me starting University in September I was looking to find a guild that raided more normal hours as well as wanting to test myself in Mythic content. Nitril from VLC messsaged me and I joined and have really enjoyed my time there. However, it seems that we will struggle to even get Za'qul down (best try 25%) as we are re clearing a lot and starting to get stuck one easier bosses and we have been struggling with organisation and attendance recently. I feel that I want to raid somewhere that people are putting in the same amount of effort as I am.
More Information:
Can you meet our raid schedule of Wed/Thur/Mon 21:00 to 00:00 server time with at least 90% attendance?
Yes, that should be fine apart from the occasional birthday or family coming down to see my girlfriend and I although if that happens it would more affect the Sunday raids. :) If I know I won't be available for any reason I would give a lot of notice in advance!
We also raid on Sunday at the start of a new raiding tier. Are you aware of this?
Yes that's fine.
Are you able to Listen and Speak on Teamspeak?
Yes, I will be vocal when needed. Especially if someone calls for a CD or soak and I can't do it due to it being on cooldown.
What qualities do you bring to a Raid?
I feel that I am good at healing and throughput and trying to figure out what's gone wrong from a healing perspective during progression. I tend to look out for soak mechanics and try and keep my eye open if there is one missing like on Ashvane and soaking on Orgozoa when you get downstairs. Also, I try and do as much dps as a healer as I can as over time it has got more and more important for end boss kills. I try to bring a positive attitude towards progression as well as being honest with my mistakes. If I don't understand a mechanic I'll ask about it rather than keep on making the same mistakes over and over again.
How comfortable are you playing your offspecs?
Not very anymore. The end of Cata start of Mop was the last time I really had to play dps in a raid. If it's needed I'm more than happy to learn up on them. I tend to swap healer classes and I always have depending on what is good for the raid tier. I played Disc in uldir as we didn't have a disc priest and had 2 Holy paladins. My guild asked If I would play MW in TEP and I swapped to that and then I swapped back to Holy Paladin for this tier.
How do you feel about progression raiding?
I really enjoy it. I enjoy the wiping, learning and figuring out new bosses until we down it! I hate coming in on a farm boss If I haven't progressed it as you haven't had the chance to work the boss out and learn from your own and other people's mistakes.
Where did you hear about Curse of Years and do you know anyone in the guild?
I got a message from Nagassh on Wowprogress back in August when you guys were 7/8 Mythic. At the time having never raided Mythic It was a bit daunting thinking about applying to a guild progressing the final boss. I've spent the past 4 months progressing and enjoying Mythic raiding and want to now take that to the next level :)
What encouraged you to apply to Curse of Years?
Obviously, previously mentioned problems with my current guilds raid attendance and commitment. I've really enjoyed raiding with VLC and met some great players there so It wasn't an easy option to take. I spoke to my Raid leader informing him that I would be looking for a new guild for the next raid tier as I couldn't get what I wanted from the guild anymore and he was greatful and wished me luck in finding a new guild.
I like the idea of front loading raiding at the start of the tier and then hopefully by the end of the tier you will raid a bit less to do the re clears. Also, your guild has a really good history as well as not dying out which says a lot about the guild especially on a Low pop server! Also, It will be a step up I'm sure to what I'm used to, but I believe I'll become a better player by playing with better players as well.
Do you play outside of raid?
I play Wow most days If I have the time. I used to play a lot on my alts outside of raiding but since essences came about i've barely touched them. Had my Paladin, Druid, Monk and priest geared at max level last tier. I've recently started gearing my druid and priest up in the hope I'll play them a bit more. Also, I've recently joined Oblivion so I wanted to have a healer of every class type available to boost next season. I enjoy M+ but have never pushed it. I pushed my score from 1.2k to 1.7k a couple of weeks ago only so that I could join Obvlivion. Also, recently I've been trying to get rank 3 on all essences for the next tier. Missing the bg one which I'll start farming now and I want to get rank 1 of the Nazjatar PvP one.
Is there anything else you'd like to add to your application?
I can take criticism and will always own up to my own mistakes. I will ask questions if I'm not sure about something especially a raid tactic. I take pride in my character and will always look at ways to improve through checking my logs, using wowanalyser and speaking to other players. I also always come prepared to raids with Flasks, pre pots, tomes, runes and personal food! I haven't raided much in the last few expansions but I am determined to push some progress and do what I love the most in the game! During progress I'm not looking for farming high parses I'll do what needs to be done to get the kill. Including sacrificing some healing to do more damage such as wings on pull on orgozoa and using the Cyclo trinket rather then a passive healing one. If you would like to ask my anything else don't hesitate to do so, willing to speak on ts if needed.
Tell us a joke:
What's the new night elf capital called?
Darn ash us.
Thanks for taking the time to read my application!
I hope to hear from you soon,
Jack.
