General:

Your Name, Age, Gender and Location:

Jan, 21, Male, Finland

Tell us a little bit about yourself (non-WoW related Interests, Hobbies etc)

I'm currently a uni student studying mechanical engineering, I enjoy maths and I'm a huge fan of the trance music genre.

I'm fairly laid back while also being dedicated to everything I do, including playing wow & raiding.

Describe your choice of talents and why you've chosen them:

Tier one; Blood Drinker or Heartbreaker
The choice in this tier depends on how much value Heartbreaker is able to generate, on fights with constant add spawns, Heartbreaker will outperform Blood Drinker in terms of survivability & DPS, due to generating enough Runic Power to allow more Death Strikes to be cast.

In a scenario where there are less than 3 mobs up at a time, Blood Drinker is the clear choice, because of it's high damage & healing, allowed it to be a versatile tool for both offensive and defensive play.

Tier two; Rapid Decomposition

The other two choices in this tier (Heart of Ice & Spectral Deflection) are both very situational talents, and the general go-to talent is Rapid Decomposition, because It's always reliable, always does the same thing no matter what the encounter is, and is a steady increase in Runic Power generation).

That's not to say that the other two talents are useless, Spectral Deflection can certainly be useful on fights where incoming damage is ridiculously high, and Heart of Ice could potentially be useful for fights where you require extended periods of damage reduction, however, with the Kil'jaeden trinket doing the same thing as Heart of Ice, I would find it very hard to justify picking this talent over any of the others in the tier.

Tier three; Ossuary

Ossuary is the only viable choice in here, the HP gain from Anti-magic barrier is extremely redundant with the Souldrinker Trait & Foul Bulwark already causing Death Knights to have extremely high HP, and the Runes generated through Blood Tap is far inferior to the cost reduction to Death Strike from Ossuary.

Tier four; Red Thirst

Tier four of the Death Knight talents suffer from the same problem as tier three; the only viable choice is Red Thirst.

The increase in uptime on our most powerful & versatile defensive cooldown is simply way to powerful to ever give up for something as niche as a absorb shield from Tombstone or minimal healing from Mark of Blood

Tier five; Tightening Grasp vs Tremble Before Me vs March of the Damned

Tightening Grasp is the go-to talent because of it's super powerful effect of reducing the cooldown on one of our most valuable abilities; AoE grip.

Tremble before me has some potential in super high M+ keys where the random CC might save you during something like Raging week, however, even then Tightening Grasp is generally way superior.

March of the Damned could see use in the future if a Stun breaker is required, however, Icebound Fortitude already does that.

Tier six; Foul Bulwark vs Rune Tap

Foul Bulwark is the go-to talent for almost all content, it works really well with Ossuary, so you will always have at the very least 10% extra HP.

Rune Tap does have uses for mechanics that require on-demand damage reduction, such as Cenarius or Odyn spears.

Will of the Necropolis is just awful, you will very rarely be below 35% hp, meaning that the talent does nothing at all most of the time.

Tier seven; Bone Storm vs Blood Mirror vs Purgatory

All three are viable choices, with Bone Storm being amazing in M+ for both damage & healing during huge pulls, however for raiding it comes down to two choices; Blood Mirror vs Purgatory

Blood Mirror is a DPS increase, and a fairly powerful cooldown, which makes it a solid choice on fights where you know that you aren't able to randomly get killed.

Purgatory is the go-to talent for mythic progression, especially on new bosses, until you are used to the fight & used to the amount of damage you can take from various mechanics. It's always there, it will always work, and it can save a combat ress, which makes it insanely valuable for progression.

How do you prioritize your stats and why?

Haste -> Versatiltiy=Crit -> mastery

When gearing I'm currently focusing on maintaining at least 35% haste (with Bone Shield), because I feel like 35% haste is enough to have a smooth playstyle in terms of not lacking Runic Power generation, and being able to maintain 5+ Boneshield charges at all times to maximize the value from Ossuary. After Haste I put around the same amount of value on Versatility and Crit (parry), since both are powerful in terms of survivability, though from what I've seen, in The Tomb of Sargeras, I'm leaning more towards versatility over crit, since most lethal mechanics in ToS are magic based, which lowers the value of crit. Versatility also has the added benefit of working well together with the Death Knight Legendary bracers which I have, since it means that I always heal for more than 10% of my total HP, which grants me the runic power refund even in times of no damage intake to increase Deathstrike healing.

What state is your Artifact in?

Fell behind a bit on my artifact when I had to take a break from the game due to some real life issues (all worked out now), however I've already managed to get to 55 Traits, almost at 56, so traits are not a concern.

Where do you acquire knowledge about your Class?

Death Knight discord, and talking with friends that I have in guilds that are ahead of me in progression.

Paste a your UI IN COMBAT:

Important things;
Tracking external cooldowns so that I can call for things such as Sacrifice or Iron bark if I'm going to need one.
Boneshield stacks
And having all my major defensive abilities in the middle of the screen, so that I can easily keep track of what I have and don't have available to me.

Link to your raid logs using using LINK:

The only death knight logs I have available to me are random Night Hold pugs from a while ago; https://www.warcraftlogs.com/rankings/c ... &boss=1866

I played hunter up to Mythic Gul'dan, at which point my guild disbanded & I decided to take a break from the game to work out some major problems in my life, came back and decided to re-roll Death Knight since I didn't enjoy hunter, thus the lack of mythic logs.

Here are my hunter logs (just to show that I avoid mechanics etc)

MoP, Didn't really play the expansions seriously when it comes to PvE, only did MSV in MoP before quitting for the majority of the expansion.

Legion;

7/7M EN, 2/3M ToV, 8/10M Nighthold.

Tell us about your previous guilds and your reasons for leaving them:

The only noteworthy guilds I've been in are my guilds from Legion

E x o d u s on Aggramar, the guild fell apart after we killed Star Augur, due to some major changes in the leadership of the guild (GM stepped down, officers followed, lost a large part of the healing roster)

Saturnine on Frostmane; Joined Saturnine after E x o d u s fell apart with the mindset of raiding there, however as I stated before, real life went downhill and I had to make the choice of stepping down from raiding, so I left the guild.

More Information:

Can you meet our raid schedule of Wed/Thur/Mon 21:00 to 00:00 server time with at least 90% attendance?

Yes, I haven't missed a single raid in either of the guilds I've been in during Legion, I aim to always have 100% attendance.

We are raiding Sundays at start of each Tier for 3-4 weeks. Are you aware of it?

Yes

Are you able to Listen and Speak on Teamspeak?

Yes

What qualities do you bring to a Raid?

I'm vocal when I need to be (such as calling for external cds, taunt swaps, if something goes wrong I'll instantly let the raid know so that the group can react to it), however I also try to keep the extra talking down to a minimum during raids.

I'm an extremely fast learner, If I make a mistake I won't repeat it, and my awareness for things that go on around me is quite good, so if I notice someone else making a mistake, I will learn from that aswell.

I'm always on time, and I have nothing against trying multiple different approaches to a boss, wiping is part of the raiding experience, experimenting is a good way to learn.

How comfortable are you playing your offspecs?

Due to my Death Knight being a re-roll project, my offspecs are not quite up to scratch, however I'll start working on them soon.

How do you feel about progression raiding?

It's the main reason I play the game, working together on something as a team and achieving it is one of the most satisfying experiences to be had in the game.

Where did you hear about Curse of Years and do you know anyone in the guild?

I found the guild through the Looking for Players for PvE forum on the official WoW forums.

What encouraged you to apply to Curse of Years?

Since I returned to the game about a week ago, I've been looking for a new guild to enjoy progression with again, and you needing a tank, and having looked into your guild a bit, it seems like a place where I could enjoy raiding for a long period of time.

Do you play outside of raid?

Yes, I play the game quite a lot, I enjoy doing high M+ keys and soloing difficult content.

I've only been back from my break for about a week, and in this one week I've farmed 13 traits and probably done over 150 M+ keys to get up to date on gear, as well as pugged as much ToS as I could (quite hard with no achievements :p), so yeah I enjoy the game a lot and I play it an unhealthy amount of the time.

Is there anything else you'd like to add to your application?

A concern you might have when reading my application is my lack of experience tanking Mythic raids in Legion, I can write as much positive stuff about my self as a player and my performance as possible, but everyone would do that.

So instead, if you want people to vouch for me as a player, I got friends in CyaThursday & Future that I play with fairly regularly, doing high M+ keys etc, so if you'd like the contact information to any of these players, just ask for it.

Afraid we've accepted another tank on trial at the moment, so we'll have to decline for the meantime, though it's certainly not due to anything lacking on your end or the app - just already accepted someone, if it doesn't work out we'll try to get back in touch with you incase you're still looking for a guild, but we wouldn't want to stop you searching when we can't give you a spot immediately.
