Character Related Information...

  • Pick two encounters and describe which talents and glyphs (and possibly spec) you use, and why.:
Going off the basis of Enhancement spec here. Also as I have no proper progression experience in HFC as such I will not choose a boss from that location. I will instead choose them from my last time during actual progression which was Highmaul. Starting with a general overview then giving boss specific thoughts / talents / glyphs and approaches.
    In general:
During this part of Warlords there were two basic setups for Enhancement Shaman.
The AoE focussed build and the Single target focussed build.
For the AoE Build it would roughly look like this:

    AoE Centered.
    Tier = Talent Row
Tier 1: Astral Shift – Damage reduction cooldown on a reliable cooldown.
Tier 2: Windwalk Totem – the only other possible talent to consider in this row is Earthgrab on very specific encounters where rooting mobs would actually achieve something rather than a slow and kill/kite.
Tier 3: Totemic Projection is the default choice. For Enhancement there are barely any cases where reducing sub 3 min CD Totems actually gives a benefit. This mostly being Earthbind, Grounding, healing stream totem, capacitor and grounding.
Tier 4: Echo of the Elements – (New version changed during 6.1) the charge system allows the pooling of resources (cooldowns) and the use of back to back Fire Nova’s.
Tier 5: Ancestral Guidance – Other talent options do not come close to what this talent puts out.
Tier 6: Unleash Fury – Multistrike scaling component for AoE from Fire Nova.
Tier 7: Liquid Magma – If adds are stacked up to a decent degree add’s a lot of AoE damage. Decent in single target also.

    Single Target Focussed,
    Tier = Talent Row
Tier 4: Elemental Mastery – If used properly with other cooldowns will give significant damage increase for single target.
Tier 5: Ancestral Guidance – Other talent options do not come close to what this talent puts out.
Tier 6: Primal Elementalist – Combination of this talent + Elemental Mastery and taking Storm Elemental in Tier 7 is arguably the best for single target if timed properly.
Tier 7: Storm Elemental Totem– Combined with the tier 6 talent does moderate to good damage and also does healing to target’s in an area around it.
Currently the general consensus for Enhancement shamans in terms of talents is pretty much the AoE cantered build. Due to scaling of gear and overall mechanics of bosses these talents work.
    The Butcher – Heroic Highmaul.
Note beforehand: In general Enhancement has few decent Glyphs.
In this fight I use the Single Target Talent setup as described before.
In addition to this the follow glyph will be used:
Glyph of Fire Elemental Totem. Reduces the duration and cooldown by 50%.

The reason to use this glyph is the following:
The combination of having the cooldown reduced allows it to be used twice during the fight in combination with other cooldowns like Elemental Mastery (30% Haste) and Second Agility Potion (1k Agility) for overall higher damage output from the Fire Elemental in two separate uses.
The Butcher fight takes up to about 5-6 minutes. Without this Glyph the Fire Elemental totem would be used at the start but would not be up again before the boss is either dead or the raid wipes.
    This would mean that:
Fire Elemental would be up at the start of the fight benefiting from pre-pot, trinket procs – Elemental Mastery.

Air Elemental Totem would be used afterwards using a Searing totem to fill the fire totem slot.
After 2 mins and 30 seconds the Fire Elemental would come off cooldown. And with the cooldown of Elemental Mastery / Feral Spirits being 2 minutes as well would allow all of these to benefit from the increased haste again + the second use of an Agility Potion.

Tectus and Imperator – Heroic Highmaul.
For this second example I’ve taken two bosses who have either a lot of adds at the end or during certain parts of the fight. In the case of Tectus this is the last phase where you have all the small versions of the boss up. And for Imperator during his transition phases and the small arcane shade mobs swarm your tanks.
For these kinds of fight the AoE Talent choices are taken. In combination with the following Glyphs.
Glyph of Fire Nova – Increase range on Fire Nova by 5 yards.
Glyph of Lava Spread – Increases the Flame Shock spread range by Lava Lash by 8 yards. Making the spread of Flameshock a lot more reliable.
Glyph of FlameShock – Flame Shock DoT ticks heal for 30% of the damage dealt. When Flame Shock is up on 6+ target this adds up to a decent amount of survivability.

These talent choices combined increase the reliability and effectiveness of the Enhancement Shaman’s AoE Damage output on fights where this is required while providing a nice boost to personal survivability.

  • How do you prioritise your stats?:
In general the stat weights for Enhancement are:
    Haste -> Mastery >= Multistrike -> Crit/Versatility.

  • Where do you acquire information and knowledge about your class?:
I try to stay up to date on my class for the past years using:
    - MMO-Champion: From General forums / Raid and Encounters forums / Shaman Class forums.
    - Youtubers like Preach.
    - I used to be an active lurker of Totemspot. Websites like Icyveins and the likes are known and sometimes used as quick reminders but these tend to be very simplistic.
    - Worldoflogs/ Warcraftlogs/ Askmrrobot.

More Information...

  • Raid times: Can you meet our raid schedule of Wed/Thur/Mon 21:00 to 00:00 server time? (Optional raid on Sunday). Note that on start we raid of tier Wed/Thu/Mon/Sun and then push Heroic on Sunday as optional raid.:
    Wednesday, Thursday, Monday, Sunday
  • What qualities do you bring to a raid?:
Experience. Simply stated I’ve been playing this game for a long time at what I would consider a decently high level.
Patience – Raiding means wiping, sometimes only a few and sometimes in the 100’s. I’ve been in this position and as raiding has developed over the years so have the complexity and amount of mechanics per boss.
High awareness – Quick to pick up things
Sociable – I’m not a shy person and if asked/required I will speak up and voice my opinion or lead certain elements of a fight.
Seriousness where it matters, a joke or two in between – Raiding is a social experience in the end. We are all there to hit pixilated Dragons/Orcs/Giants/Demi-gods/Demons and what not. Being able to focus when it matters during progression with a bit of jest in between to lighten the mood is essential to the success and longevity of any raid team.

  • Share how you feel about progression raiding.:
Over the years of raiding I have become a lot more competitive in terms of raiding. At the very start things like logs and in depth guides to bosses were few and far between. These days I see raiding as a mix of a social experience with a (very) competitive edge. It feels good to do high DPS, HPS, etc. etc. But doing that while also doing tactics properly, helping fellow raiders learn the fight and get the most out of their respective roles, therein is the amazing part of it. I’m expected to perform, not only for my own competitive side, but for the good of the group.
  • What are your faults in relation to raiding?:
Over-eagerness – One of the things I must watch out for is not doing other their work for them.
Next to that I need to make sure I don’t let the general awareness hamper by personal skill / dps.

  • Where did you hear about us? What encouraged you to apply?:
I’ve heard about Curse of Years through Serista (Formerly Seriana) who is my best friend in real life, I’ve been gaming together with him close to 15 years now. What he’s told me about your guild has been very positive overall and I look forward to experiencing this myself first-hand.
  • Is there anything else you would like to say?:
I would like to thank you for taking the time to read my application. I’ve only very recently acquired my Legendary Ring so that why it is only 635 iLvl. When accepted I will obviously swap to your server and horde side as quickly as possible. I will be most likely become a Pandaren.

Feel free to ask me anything based on the app / or whatever might be missing.

    Merc. - Alex

  • What do you get excited about (non WoW related)?:
The English Language , Politics, Philosophy, watching a lot of different series, big fan of the Marvel Universe, I also tend to read a lot of books / newspapers / etc. I try to work out 2-3 times a week to keep in shape. Next to that the basic hanging out with friends/fellow students and the sorts.
Other games I’m looking forward to playing or play:
    - Overwatch / Diablo 3 next season ( current close to 800 paragon in Season 4 playing PTR for patch

A small error my legendary ring is obviously 735 not 635. Next to that My keybindings are not view-able on this screenshot. I hope this will help. The Legendary ring proc is bound to one of my mouse keys (keybinding does not show properly on the UI).

Hey! Just a couple of quick questions....

What do you think about the shaman changes in legion? Is there anything that you like/dislike the look of? What are your thoughts on elemental currently?

@Rynamite
Thank you for the very swift repy. I'll be looking forward to it.

@Eze:
Regarding Shamans in Legion:
- I'm not one to panic easily and know we are on the verge of the Beta starting.
- The biggest change being the new Maelstrom Resource for both Elemental and Enhancement. I'm curious on how they will implement it. I've stayed with this class since I picked it as my main in TBC. Every class will have it's high highs and low lows. I've been the top of the healing meter in Sunwell to the middle of the pack in Wrath. To on the other side doing average at best dps in Firelands as Enhance to doing insane 1.5mil+ opening Burst in Heroic Siege of Orgrimmar.
- I don't see myself swapping class quickly. Unless they really, really gimp the class which I doubt blizzard will.
- Swapping to a different spec is not a problem. Would prefer to deal damange over healing.
- Elemental seems to be staying relative the same. Maelstrom affecting the duration of FlameShock from 10-30 seconds depending on Maelstrom spend ( 10 seconds at 0 Maelstrom and 30 seconds at 20 Maelstrom). Elemental Overload (Pretty much current Multistrike) is comming back to the class which is fine and it fits. Interesting possibilities as these Overloads also grant Maelstrom Resource.
- Enhancement is getting the biggest overhaul in Legion in terms of the Shaman specs. Overall I'm excited to see what they do with it. I've already started keeping a changelog / document of what their plans are for the spec, updating as things change in the months to come.
- As the datamining has just started for the Legion Beta. One of the possible Totems that has been datamined is the follow: ( I'm expecting this to be an Enhance Totem, but considering general changes to the Totem System I'm not 100% sure).

Unknown named Totem:
Whenever you or allies within 15 yds of the totem deal damage, the same damage will be dealt to a random enemy within range. Lasts 15 sec.

To be honest this sounds ridiculousy overpowered. But it gives me hope that Blizzard is testing out things.

On Elemental right now:
It's in an okey-ish position. The added benefit obviously being a ranged spec over a melee one. The DPS in terms of realistic sim results is lower then Enhance across the board. Exception being 3 target continuous cleave. Pure singe target the margin is roughly 5-10% in favor of Enhancement.

Elemental is not the most complicated spec, but if the guild would ask me to play this spec instead due to for example a high ammount of melee I'm fine with that with the added wink of prefering the Enhancement spec for the ''future / Legion'' depending on people who might reroll / respec in that period.

It would obviously require some more work from my part, I have played Elemental to a decent degree in the past and would not have a problem taking it up again.

Hope this anwsers your questions.
-Merc.

Hi,

We would like to offer you a trial spot. As you are already aware, we are at Archimonde and sometimes we will extend. It shouldn't make you feel lonely or bored tho, we got some plans to re-clear and do some farms later.

Welcome aboard.

Cheers,
Y.
